Are you just slaves to money?
We work in life to pay bills, spend the majority of our time doing things we don’t want to do, want more money to obtain items that we assign a value to, and even kill one another lots of times being related somehow to money.
What has gone wrong??
What has gone wrong is an over-obsession with materialism—-a belief that material goods are a way to happiness. This happens even though the SAME people who work at a madding pace for more and more money, can point to time spent with friends, (or for the religious, even with God) spouses, or children as their happiest moments. We are embarassed to admit that we don’t buy into society’s myth that “money buys happiness”, even though we truly don’t believe it.
If the problem with materialism doesn’t seem obvious, think of a kind of food you enjoy—-The taste may be enjoyable, but the “craving” for it is a kind of suffering; the pain from the suffering lasts a far longer time than the taste. Sexual pleasures can be viewed the same way…..Or, if you buy a very expensive car, think about how short-lived the pleasure from that can be; the car then becomes a pain from constant maintenance. The pain from the maintenance lasts far longer than the pleasure of having a new car.
Material things do not necessarily bring you happiness. That is a fact of life. It is a hard fact to understand sometimes, especially in a society that tries very hard to teach you otherwise.
There’s definitely more to Life than that.
